Dr. Phil McGraw: Self Matters, Changing your life from the inside out.

If you've spent any time on the planet Earth in the last little while, you will have heard of Dr. Phil. He is the latest in a long line of self-help gurus. Whether or not he is any better, any more effective than his predecessors remains to be seen. I am a firm believer in " when the student is ready, the teacher appears" which is to say you really need to be ready, open minded and receptive to the challenges and suggestions Phil will put to you. Whatever keeps Richard Simmons in the forefront of the weight loss industry; it's likely the same for Phil. They are both "characters", kind and compassionate and help to make their respective areas of expertise a productive and still pleasant experience. "Lets sweat" however could equally apply to both.

The appeal of Dr. Phil, at least to me, is his combination of country boy simplicity and legal eagle prowess. He can be as intimidating a presence as he can be gentle and jovial. A bear for sure, part teddy, part grizzly, hence his personal charm.

This book is not recommended for procrastinators, "skimmers" or people who want a "quick fix". There is a lot of work to be done. It is not enough to be inspired and motivated to change or improve, resolve or reflect on your issues, you must be prepared to do the work and write down what you think, why you think it and how you're going to (if need be) change it. It IS a guide though, a manual of sorts to truly discover and accomplish all you need to successfully manage your life and all of the diverse components that lie within it. Laced with examples and personal anecdotes, it is an easy and often amusing read. In this way it is beautifully balanced to get you where you need to be and to continue on that path. If you read it, you will find it interesting to be sure as it will open a Pandora's box of everything you've ever thought or felt about anything regarding your past present or future. If you DO THE WORK (the accompanying exercises) you WILL be altered, inspired, more self-aware than you have ever been. If you want to know who you are and how you got this way, this book will answer those questions and no doubt trigger many more.

Therefore in regards to the message and intent of, "Dr. Phil McGraw: Self Matters, Changing your life from the inside out" as Phil would say, " you will either get it or you won't".
