To Dream of You

With a blink, you bring dancing figures to life
In the mirror, my eyes become yours
And if everything is still, I can hear
laughter echo like chimes.
At night I close my eyes and fall
To land in a world you created
To stand and smell the pine needles
To turn my head
and catch a fleeting glimpse of you
Before you disappear behind a forest giant
Followed by the folds
of your incandescent dress.
Before my mind can comprehend
My feet are taking me towards you
I can't see the sun, yet it's beams blind me
and my hand raises to block the light.
I reach the tree, Circle it's trunk
And have lost you.
Listen, the silence is too loud.
Time holds it's breath, As I drop to my knees
My head lowers as a tear
Moves down my face. My eyes do not close
As I watch the crystal drop
explode
in rainbows.
A gentle hand invades my world
My face is lifted
Your face is so beautiful
It can only exist here
Your head tilts to the side
and you smile a smile so amazing
It's almost too much
For someone like me
Another tear follows the first.
You become my world, As you move closer
I hesitate to blink my eyes
But against my will they close.
I fear I have lost you yet again
But I am proven wrong when
I feel your velvet lips envelope my own.
I wish for time to stop completely
Or even that I may die
And stay here for eternity
As you pull back I squeeze my eyes
So that I may never awaken
But you laugh and put your hands on my shoulders
I feel your hair as you lean into me
and whisper into my ear...
"Open your eyes, you know you can't stay here."
I whisper back, "only if you'll come with me"
She doesn't answer and I open my eyes
The sun is pouring in my window
Like an unwelcome guest
I sigh and get up
To do what must be done
And suddenly, in between one breath
and the next
I hear, "Don't I always?"
