Flower

By Kahlan Nightwing

I
Why compare you to a rose?
You won't wither and die inside me
Why compare you to a tulip?
Surely you smell sweeter than any perfume

Flower you are yes
Immortal petals open to my light
I see inside and catch my breath
For more beauty lies within

II
Surely this flower you crave will bloom
Surely it will blossom into a bouquet
Why linger and tarry over the weeds?
When this flower but waits for your kiss

Open me, let me see your tears of rain
Find how sweet I taste and smell
Listen to me whisper in your ear, oh flower
I will never turn my thorns on you

This flower but waits for you, love
Speak my name and I shall fall
Safely caught in hands caressed by summer's light
Pluck me from my safe place, and bring me into you

III
Immortal flower, forever blooming day and night
Evanescent to my sight, do not fade
Do not wonder; there is no other for me

While you slumber, dream of me
Drink my dew, I give it to you
Perfection caught on lips

Surely this dream will last forever
As long as you bloom through my evening
Keep me with you, at your breast, close beside you always
