For Sunny

You were there for me at my lowest point,
You held my hand and wiped away my tears,
The maturity of your words gave me strength,
The warmth of your love gave me hope.
At times my tears prevented me from seeing you,
That darkened time in my life, I came so close to the end.

I fought against the anguish of my loneliness,
The many nights you helped me hold on to my sanity, for I was not there.
So many times I felt that my tears would drown me,
Yet you sat by me and gently stroked my hair.
Your gentle voice, your caring touch, so tender to my needs.

You neither asked nor took anything from me,
Instead you gave me back my battered dignity,
Sunshine, you are the friend that many dream of,
The one person who understood and talked me through my pain.
Your loving arms held onto me, your friendship kept me safe.

Where was the love that I searched so long for,
It was there all along, I just could not see it.
It came in the shape of Sunshine,
Loyal, guiding, and protective, and always here for me.
