At A Loss

By Kelly S. Ammon

I lost you only a month ago,
and I could do nothing to stop it.
Somehow we started to divide,
our love,
to cleave to our independent identities.

Now I am afraid,
Of being alone, living on without you in my life.
It's scary going back into
the SINGLE world.

New people, new faces,
But none of them yours.
None of them filled with the same
Love and respect your face,
Your heart once held for me.

It all ended in the chaos of my mind,
Blown out dramatically on the stage
Of LIFE.

I wish that we could be together,
I know I once said that maybe...later?
Now, if only I could take back those words
And replace them with the new and profound
feelings we had for each other once,
when EVERYTHING was new.
