Birthday Wishes

Though older than you my love, am I,
Please forgive me as upon your life I spy.
36 years past your first appearance,
I hold you closest to my heart, my dearest.

Short is the time I have spent with you.
But long have I wished for love so true.
Those dark lovely eyes you see me with,
Lure me close to your lips to be kissed.

A once guarded heart is now revealed.
Robust and eager, quite full of zeal.
Not planning for what tomorrow brings.
Just hoping that the phone will ring.

And that woman who's just past 36
Will find my heart the one she picks
To trust and share and love to the depths.
Or dream of as she peacefully slept.

I love you, my beautiful birthday girl.
And to you, my gift would be the world.
But the world, it is only mine to share.
Like love, it's never owned, just simply there!
