The Labyrinth

By Jan Thomas

I saw her gaze meet mine,
And felt such sorrow at its brim.
I fought to keep from falling in,
But fall I did, into her maze.

I wasn't smart enough to know,
How labyrinths keep their captives,
So, I followed her down every path,
Until at last, I'd lost myself.

I caught her, then...or she caught me.
How blind is love? Too late you see,
She never meant to capture me.

Ten years have come between us now.
I passed her yesterday by chance.
I cast a look to see her aged,
But never caught her glance.
