In Loving Memory of my Best Friend

By Muffy Monroe

It's been a year and I miss you, I think about you everyday
We talked so many times but there are things I still need to say
Like how much I appreciate you and thanks for being my friend
The same words you spoke to me just before the end
It's hard to focus on the good times when this all seems so bad
Everything reminds me of you and all the times we've had
I think about you when the wind blows and almost feel like you are there
I feel you near me when I need you, showing me you care
I feel like part of me is missing, a void only you can fill
I hold on because I know we'll meet again, you'll be waiting, I know you will
True friendship doesn't just end, no one can ever take that away
You gave it to me to hold in my heart and that is where it will stay
I wasn't ready to say good bye and I still don't think I can
So I'll see you another time when our souls meet up again...

This poem is in memory of my best friend DeeDee, a victim of senseless homicide. She was one of my only friends that accepted my sexuality and loved me unconditionally, even when I dated the girlfriend from hell.
