Ultraviolet By Jan Thomas
Never thought much about the color red,
Until I saw You, setting blazes in it.
Now, sensing how eager roses tint,
My body cascades from your lingering brush.
Never feared the sun aglow in orange,
Until lupus chose to dare you.
Now, spears from solar flares descend,
My shadows leap to spare you.
Never longed for wealth or gold,
Until amber sparkled from deep brown eyes.
Now, trembling treasures I gently hold,
Your hand in mine, entwines.
Never sought my bones a place to rest,
Beneath Earth's cover green.
Now, Love's garden sends her grace,
Inviting us, it seems.
Never felt sadness tear ribbons of blue,
Out of the living sky.
Until you sacrified your heart,
To narrow conforming lies.
Now, prosper all the violets in the world.
Except that one destined in your heart,
To shrink and die.
Rendering your heart, invisible,
Still, it strikes my soul's blind eye.
