One Step Forward; Two Steps Back

With such sweetness and love you showered me.
Like the fresh gentle wisp of a summer breeze.
Soft caring eyes took away my fears.
Loving you seemed so easy, so clear.

But every time we get this close,
You turn away when your heart's exposed.
I hardly know what to think of that.
One step forward and two steps back!

You say you don't believe in love.
That you only trust in God above.
Then who are you to mock His gift.
The love We share is His love you'll miss!

You think that you can scare me off,
Because you know my heart is soft.
But I'm strong enough to take this crap!
One step forward, two steps back!

I pray that you'll return to me,
And enjoy my love and company.
Forget past lovers and anger harbored.
Cling to Me and love me harder.

My self-respect won't let me linger.
If you're not my song, then I'm not your singer.
My heart could be yours if you want that.
Instead of one step forward, two steps back!
