Sleeping Monster

I lie on my back,
Complacent, basking in
The warm sun that is your love.
Gentle waves lull me into a stupor;
An hypnotic echo of our mutual heartbeats.
What a surprise to find
The dark water,
The swirling, dizzying whirlpool
Was waiting to swallow me
Just around the next bend.
