Sunday Morning

By Caron C.

Sunday morning

eyes
not yet open vaguely
sensing the dawn

reaching next to me
you
more still than these
new nights
have seen

i touch the realness
of your body next to mine
and remember

i feel the slow smile while
memories dance
and float
in my groggy attempt
at consciousness

we talked for
hours
didn't we

and loved

oh, how we loved
how we devoured each other

now

we carefully sculpt
(or did we simply redirect It)
what is coming
to be
our new life together

after too long
we are on NEW GROUND

we have come to
a NEW
UNDERSTANDING

Sunday morning

wrapped in the newness
we've fought so hard for

hold on
my love

the wait was worth
the fight

the brass ring is ours and

the ride has only

begun
