Change Is Difficult

By Kerry Rickard

Change is difficult, Change is hard
It's never what you think
Your friends desert you, Your family too
Your life is gonna stink.

Maybe for the chosen few
Things will go to plan,
When you decide to leave
To be with a woman and not a man.

You think that they will understand
You try to make them see,
But they do not want to admit
That I'm still the same old me.

They say that love is unconditional
But how can that possibly be,
When before I was loved and wanted
Now they all want rid of me.

They want things to be the same
As they were before,
But how can I give up the love I've found
The happiness I saw?

It's so unfair to make me choose
My old life or my new,
When the old one was empty, miserable
And made me feel so blue.

This new life holds such promise
Of love and joy I've never felt
How can I help it, what can I do
These are the cards that I've been dealt.

I feel that I'm no longer living a lie
I'm being honest with myself,
I thought it'd be better all round,
Much better for my health.

But already it's too late for things
To go back to the past,
So I'll make good of a bad job
And make this relationship last.
