The Angry King

By Patricia America

I fell in love with the queen.
Now I am being sent to the guillotine.
The king is enraged.
Until my execution I remain caged.
My love for her is still as high as noon.
So much love that I will swoon.
No one can take that love away from me
It is just as unstoppable as the sun's rays of humidity.
I lay my head down to depart from this world.
The razor sharp blade eclipsed as my toes curled.
My head rolled over. My eyes stared.
"Close her eyes," the king commanded, but no one dared.
Those eyes focused on the only thing it desired.
Gazing eyes at the queen made the queen grow tired.
She passed out in front of the king's feet.
He asked the guards why she fell out of her seat.
They pointed at my unfaltering sight.
Everyone put up a fight,
So they did not have to lay hands on my living head.
They would rather be jailed instead.
The king walked down to my body.
He saw my eyes looking at his queen and fell on one knee.
Devotion greater than his in death,
Further than the last breath.
He closed my eyes
And there, I met my demise.
