Foolish heart

By shel

They tell me I shine,
before they break what's mine.
Leaving me to pick up what's left of my heart,
as with a ribbon of shattered promises they tear it apart.

I try so hard myself to protect,
but in their darkened world they say I reflect.
A ray of light blinding them with each beam,
so why do they tear me in two at the seam?

Faith for easy doesn't come easy to place,
as sooner or sooner I know I'll have to face.
My world fall to pieces all around me,
for it never takes long for hurt to outsound me.

Silencing me all but a sob,
as overnight my love it'll rob.
I try to hold on,
but I lose my grip before it's gone.

They told me it was a good thing,
how much light my love can bring.
Maybe it's time I toned down my rays,
perhaps waiting in the shadows pays?

Once again I wrap up the fragile heart of me,
that is prone to being attacked so easily.
As with broken wings that have fell apart,
I cradle to me this FOOLISH HEART!!!
